I Quit My Job in a Two-Lined Email. Here's the Response I Got Back.

I quit my job in a two-lined email three years ago. This is the response I received back.

Receiving this email was so hard for me because I truly didn't know what the next opportunity was. Yes, I had quit to pursue content full-time, but at the same time I didn't actually know where this could go. I didn't have any specific goals lined up. I just hoped and prayed that it would be able to cover my living expenses with no true plan on how to do it.
What I Remembered vs. What Actually Happened
What's so funny is I actually remember this email so differently than what it shows here. And that definitely shows my own insecurity about this time in my life.
My memory had shown me that I received an email that was a bit snarkier. Basically saying, "Congratulations on your new opportunity because I know you wouldn't have quit if you didn't have something already lined up."
It's really crazy to me that, looking at this email now three years later, that line is not in this email. I sincerely want to go through and see if I'm missing it because that's how clearly I remembered that specific line being present.
The actual email? It was warm. It was supportive. It congratulated me and said, "I hope it is something that enables you to keep growing and learning and focusing on the work you love to do." That's it. No snark. No passive aggression. Just genuine well wishes and an offer to chat about my time in the CORE Tech program.
The Biggest Judge of Your Career Choices Is You
It truly just goes to show that the biggest judge of the choices that you make, especially ones that pertain to your career, is yourself. I projected my own fear and insecurity onto a perfectly kind email and carried a distorted version of it in my head for three years.
That's a lesson I'll be taking with me. And I hope this is a sign for you that the only person who needs to be okay with your decision is yourself.
If you are in the middle of making certain career decisions in your life, I hope you treat this as a sign. The fear you feel about what other people think? There's a good chance it's coming from inside the house.
