I asked AI a simple question: "What does my dream life in New York actually cost?"

The answer made me rethink everything.

My Dream Life, Spelled Out

I told AI exactly what my dream life looks like as an ambitious woman in tech:

  • Living solo in a bright 2-bed apartment in a cute NYC neighborhood
  • Working 4 to 5 hours a day on my own projects instead of being chained to a 9-to-5
  • Two international trips a year
  • Regular dinners and drinks with friends
  • Weekly Pilates classes
  • Monthly beauty or spa appointments
  • Money going into investing and a safety net so I'm not anxious every time I tap my card

Then I asked AI to cost it out like a CFO.

The Number That Changed Everything

$38,500 a month after tax.

That means if I were living in New York, I'd need to earn roughly $700K per year.

For a moment, I just sat there. That number is massive. But here's the thing: once you know the number, you can actually build toward it. Most people never get this far because they never get specific.

So I took it a step further. I fed AI my resume, LinkedIn profile, and personality type result, then pasted this prompt:

Based on my background, skills, personality type, and current income streams, give me five realistic options I could build in the next 12 months to work toward $38,500 per month. Tell me what I should double-down on, and how much I'd need to make from each. For any new suggestion, tell me: what the income stream is, how I could start it with what I already have, what I would charge, and how many clients or sales I would need to hit my monthly goal. Be specific and realistic.

The result? AI told me to lean most into B2B services, SaaS products, and content.

Now, I'm looking for brokers in NYC so I can live out this dream life.

Your Turn: Here's the Exact Process

If you're an ambitious woman who wants to use AI to build skills, income, and freedom, start by asking this question: "What does my dream life actually cost?" Then use AI to reverse-engineer how you'll earn it.

Here's the exact step-by-step process I used. Every prompt is ready to copy and paste.

Step 1: Define Your Dream Life in Detail

Copy and paste this into your AI chat (Claude, ChatGPT, or whichever you use), then customize the bracketed parts:

Act as my personal CFO and lifestyle designer. I'm an ambitious woman in [industry/role, e.g. "early-career software engineer" or "marketing freelancer"]. First, ask me clarifying questions to describe my dream life in detail:

- Where I live (city, neighborhood vibe, apartment size, living solo or not).
- How many hours per day/week I work and what type of work I do.
- How often I travel (weekend trips, international trips per year, typical destinations).
- My social life (dinners/drinks with friends, date nights, events).
- My wellbeing habits (fitness classes, Pilates, therapy, coaching, spa/beauty).
- My money goals (investing, savings, emergency fund, paying off debt).

Ask me follow-up questions until you have enough detail to cost my lifestyle accurately. At the end, summarize my dream life in bullet points and wait for me to confirm before you calculate anything.

Paste this, answer the questions, confirm the summary, then move to Step 2.

Step 2: Ask AI "What Does My Dream Life Actually Cost?"

Once the AI has your dream life summary, paste this next:

Now, using my confirmed dream life description, estimate how much this lifestyle would cost per month and per year in [city/region, e.g. "New York City" or "London"]. Break it down line-by-line, including:

- Rent/housing for the type of apartment/neighborhood I described.
- Utilities, internet, phone.
- Groceries and eating out.
- Transport (public transport, Uber/taxis, car if relevant).
- Travel (flights, accommodation, spending money for trips).
- Fitness/wellbeing (Pilates, gym, therapy, coaching).
- Beauty/spa, hair, nails.
- Shopping (clothes, home stuff, tech).
- Investing and savings contributions.
- A buffer for "life happens" and unexpected costs.

For each category, tell me the monthly cost, the annual cost, and the assumptions you used (prices, frequency, etc.). Then give me:

- My total monthly lifestyle cost before tax.
- My total monthly lifestyle cost after tax, assuming an effective tax rate of [insert % or ask for the typical rate in my country].
- The annual income I'd need to comfortably afford this.

This step gives you your "dream life number." Maybe it's $8K/month, $20K/month, or $38K/month like mine. Whatever it is, now you know.

Step 3: Reverse-Engineer Your Income Plan

Now that you have the number, this is where AI becomes your strategic partner, not just a cute chat. Paste this:

Based on everything you know about my dream lifestyle cost, I now want to build an income plan that can realistically reach [insert your monthly target, e.g. "$12,000 per month" or "$38,500 per month"] in the next 12-24 months. Use what you know about typical online income streams for ambitious women in tech (e.g. consulting, B2B services, coaching, digital products, content, SaaS, affiliates).

1. Suggest 5 realistic income streams I could build or scale, given that I want to work around [X] hours per day and [Y] days per week.

2. For each income stream, tell me:
   - What the income stream is.
   - Why it fits someone like me (skills, personality, background).
   - How I can start it with what I already have (skills, tools, existing audience, portfolio).
   - What I would charge (or my price points/packages).
   - Exactly how many clients, projects, or sales I'd need per month to hit my target.

3. Then create a simple table showing:
   - Income stream
   - Price per unit
   - Number of units per month
   - Monthly revenue
   - Estimated hours per month
   - Revenue per hour

4. Finally, recommend:
   - What I should double-down on first.
   - What I should test next.
   - What I should ignore for now.

Make it specific, realistic, and tailored to me.

Step 4: Turn the Plan into a 12-Month Roadmap

Once AI has proposed the income mix, use this prompt to turn it into something you can actually execute:

Using the income streams you suggested and the numbers you calculated, build me a 12-month roadmap to go from my current income to [insert goal, e.g. "$12K/month" or "$38,500/month"]. Break it down like this:

- Months 1-3: Validation and skill-building. What do I do weekly to validate offers, sharpen skills, and get my first paying clients or sales?
- Months 4-6: Systems and consistency. What do I do to turn this into a repeatable system (content, outreach, lead magnets, onboarding, delivery)?
- Months 7-9: Scaling. How do I raise prices, improve my offer, or introduce leverage (group programs, digital products, SaaS, retainers)?
- Months 10-12: Optimization and diversification. How do I stabilize my core income streams and add 1-2 new, more leveraged streams?

For each quarter, give me:
- Main focus.
- Key skills I'm building.
- Concrete actions per week.
- Milestones and income targets.

Step 5: Build a Dream Life Math Tracker

You need a simple way to track the gap between where you are and where you're going. Ask AI to help you build one in Notion or Google Sheets:

Create a table with these columns:
- Category (rent, groceries, travel, beauty, etc.)
- Monthly cost
- Annual cost
- Notes/assumptions

Then create another table:
- Income stream
- Price per unit
- Units per month
- Monthly revenue
- Hours per month
- Revenue per hour

I use AI to fill in my best estimates, then update the numbers monthly as my life and income evolve.

Bonus Prompts

Once you've done the core 5 steps, here are three extra prompts to go deeper.

Dream Life vs. Reality Gap

Compare my current lifestyle and income to the dream life plan you created. Show me the gap in:
- Monthly spending.
- Monthly income.
- Working hours.

Then list the 3 biggest skill gaps and 3 biggest offer gaps that, if solved, would move me fastest toward my dream life.

Skill-Building with AI

Based on the income streams you recommended, list the top 5 skills I need to build in the next 6 months. For each skill, give me:
- What the skill is.
- Why it matters for my income.
- 3 ways I can use AI to practice or learn it faster (e.g. drills, simulations, mock projects).

Turn this into a weekly practice plan I can follow in less than 5 hours a week.

Content Plan to Attract the Right Clients

Using my dream life income plan and the offers you suggested, create a 30-day content plan to attract the exact clients or customers who would buy these offers. Focus on platforms like [insert platform, e.g. "Instagram Reels and LinkedIn"]. For each day, give me:
- A hook.
- The main message.
- A simple CTA that leads people toward my offer or my email list.

The Real Point

Most people never sit down and ask "what does my dream life actually cost?" They either assume it's impossible and don't try, or they hustle without a target and burn out.

When you let AI do the math, you take the guesswork out of it. You get a real number. And then you can work backward from that number with a real plan.

Your dream life has a price tag. Find out what it is. Then build toward it.
